Bought a VQ35HR drivetrain from Tier1 and the buying process itself was a breeze. Shipped the next day and it got here in 3 days. They sure do a great job on degreasing their parts lol Don't be fooled by shiny engines and transmission, thinking they were just ripped out of a 10k mile unit in Japan. I had a nice pool of degreaser sitting in the lower intake valley. This is not a dig at them, but more so a cautionary tale for buyers judging the mileage/condition of how things look in pictures. To the guy who left a 1-star for them not providing compression numbers and talking about "excessive cranking" - how do you think they would get their compression numbers for you? lol Compression check was one of the first things I did before dropping this in (fill it with oil first, so the pump is not inhaling a bunch of air). Came out 170-ish psi across all 6. That's on a stone-cold unit. You do get a 30-day startup warranty on these, so if those numbers were crap, this thing would be going right back to them. Definitely check compression first, or hell, even a leak down, before popping these in. I did spend many an hour transferring the various accessories and random parts over from the old engine. The sucky part was having to replace the valve covers, as several holes were full of oil (the spark plug tubes/seals are not easily replaceable on these VQs). They don't warranty this stuff, so it definitely was a bit aggravating, but not a huge deal as I had spare valve covers on hand. Would be different story if I had to go out-of-pocket for those. Suggest not using the coolant pipes/connectors (plastic ones) that come with the used engines. The bleeder valve (plastic) looked fine but ruptured after a few driving cycles (that's on me). I did have a bit of a scare, as I saw some dried-up coolant residue around the water pump weeping hole area (those that know, this is a nightmare job to fix), but the front cover looked like it was off at some point. I've noticed this way too late, after probably spending 15 hours on prepping this thing (just glad their degreaser didn't get there, or I wouldn't have known). Did some googling, checking, etc. and decided to bite the bullet and send it, after doing a leak check with shop air (had to rig it up and connect all the coolant hoses together so it held pressure). Also emailed them and never got a response back, so not sure if that was just me or they don't respond to their emails promptly, so keep that in mind. The car fired right up and, fortunately, there was no leak in that area. If I were to rate my experience with them, it would be 5 stars for initial interaction/purchase/shipping and 2 stars for the after-delivery (taking into account that they're most likely a pretty busy shop). I think 4 stars overall is fair, taking into account the multiple hours I've spent "fixing" stuff that should've been caught by their own inspections when these arrive from Japan. Pretty rookie stuff to not inspect the coil/plug holes, as it's a pretty common failure point on the valve covers for these and the water pump area (behind the a/c compressor). Attaching some pictures of how it looked the day it was delivered and the valve train condition (almost pristine), along with the oil in the spark plug hole. Again, don't be fooled by their mileage, as they don't know exactly how many miles these have. You can get a good idea only after taking and examining the parts and doing a compression test once it's in.

Thanks to JDM Tier 1. I had a massive quote for a repair but decided to replace the entire engine and the one I purchased was at a fantastic price. Their staff made time to talk with me about compatibility with my vehicle and got the motor shipped out quickly. Overall great experience. Highly recommended.

Order an engine. Received it but no invoice of the motor VIN number or mileage. I have ask for an invoice for a month now. They say they had to get it from Japan. I think that’s a lie. They claim they get their motor from Japan with low mileage but can’t show invoice. I open the valve cover and the valve was yellow. There wasn’t even a valve gasket on it, it was just silicone around it. Seems like an old motor. Highly recommended not getting anything from them in the future.
